Comdel Becomes the First RF Power Manufacturer
to Pass DeviceNet Conformance Testing

Gloucester, Massachusetts—In a move consistent with the company commitment to building reliable, safe RF power supplies, Comdel becomes the first RF power manufacturer to pass ODVA DeviceNet conformance testing. Effective immediately, Comdel's most popular family of products, the CX & CLX series generators, will carry the DeviceNet certification mark for product conformance.

DeviceNet is one of the world's leading device-level networks for industrial automation. "With more customers moving toward open equipment networks, it became obvious that DeviceNet testing was necessary to ensure customer satisfaction with our products," said Bob Dettorre, Comdel's Regulatory Compliance Manager.

Testing was carried out by the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA), on Comdel's family of CX and CLX systems. All of the tested products have been certified. Additional products will continue to be tested to satisfy the needs of customers. ODVA is an independent organization that oversees and manages the DeviceNet specifications, as well as promoting DeviceNet as the premiere choice for open network communications in industrial automation.

Conformance testing is a procedure used to ensure that DeviceNet products are compliant with the network's specifications. The test promotes interoperability of devices from multiple vendors - one of the most often-cited benefits of an open network like DeviceNet. According to ODVA, 80% of problems in an open system occur due to non-compliant products and resulting interoperability issues.

Up until recently products had been self-tested for compliance to the DeviceNet standard, a practice still used by other RF power manufacturers. However, Comdel is delighted to be the first RF power manufacturer to complete ODVA compliance testing.

Comdel, headquartered in Gloucester, Massachusetts, designs, develops and manufactures innovative, high quality RF power systems for leading companies in semiconductor, metal heat-treating, food cooking and drying, dielectric heating, medical lasers, and thin film markets. Its RF power systems offer the market’s best power and frequency range, and are backed by an industry-leading research and development design department. Comdel, which is ISO 9001 certified, is a subsidiary of Inductotherm Industries, Inc., New Jersey.
